Don't call us and we won't call you

📞 "Don't call us and we won't call you" seems to be the default setting for too many organisations when it comes to recruiting at present. How often do you see an advert that states “Only shortlisted candidates will be contacted", or words to that effect.
🖋️ These statements take seconds to write but leave a lasting negative impression. Add to this the countless applications that vanish into the ether without any acknowledgment – even after follow-ups. It's not a great time to be job hunting, that's for sure.
👻 In my role as a career coach I see first-hand how disheartening this is for job seekers. Many of my clients – underemployed or unemployed – know rejection is part of the process and can handle it. What’s harder to accept is being ghosted entirely. This issue spans big companies, small businesses, in-house teams, and recruitment agencies alike.
💡 Employers: think about what this says about your brand. Spoiler alert – it’s not positive. Candidates talk, and poor treatment damages your reputation as an employer and a business. When the job market turns, as it inevitably will, your brand may be the difference between filling that vacancy or not.
