“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.”
He was a wise man, Dr Seuss. Never stop learning is a great mantra to approach your career with, and yet it is so easy to get stuck in the day to day detail of your job. Been there, done it, got the t-shirt.
Towards the end of 2020, 27 years after I left university, I re-entered the education system. Sort of. An NZQA micro-credential if you will. I signed up for a 2 month Digital Skills course with the awesome people at the The Mind Lab. Two nights a week. Some homework. And two assessments to complete.
I can honestly say it surpassed all my expectations. The learnings were first class but of even bigger value was the way it challenged my thinking on my business, its structure and format and approach to market. As we enter the second month of 2021 I can honestly say it was one of the most important things I have done in my career to date and has had a huge impact on how I am approaching this year.
And yes I passed. I even got to put in on my LinkedIn profile.
So, what are you doing to challenge yourself from a career perspective this year?
